The Little Gym

Today was Will's first official day at The Little Gym. From now until the middle of May, Will and I are going to be attending a parent/child class one day a week. Will is in the Birds class (ages 10-19 months). During class, we work on basic motor and social skills.

This is technically Will's second day because we attended a preview class last week to see if it was something Will would enjoy. So far Will hasn't participated too much in the "circle" portion of the class. This part occurs at the beginning and the end of class and involves songs with hand motions, instruments, etc. He mostly roams the gym while I do the songs, and he occasionally joins the group. The instructors say that after a little while the newness of the gym will wear off a little bit and he will likely participate in the "circle" portion of class a little more. He was definitely more comfortable today and never once seemed hesitant of the people or the music.

Will's favorite parts of the class are free time (when the kiddos roam the gym and work on the different pieces of equipment) and when the trash can full of balls gets poured out. Today we were supposed to work on kicking the balls, but Will decided to shoot hoops instead...he already seems to like basketball--makes Billy happy I'm sure.

Next up, teaching Will to get off the taller mats by turning over on his stomach and backing off instead of running straight off and face planting (what he currently tries to do).
