A Time For Giving

In the spirit of the season...

During a trip to Africa a few years ago, a friend of ours from law school, Frank McCawley, and a friend of his began building a non-profit organization to connect people to local charities they came across during their time overseas. They have expanded rapidly in the years since, and have spent the last year building their website in partnership with a renowned digital media agency based in New York City. Their organization's name is WideAwake.org, and they officially launched their Beta site to the public about a week ago. WideAwake.org is an online charitable marketplace and community where individuals can find, support, and get involved with local grassroots charity efforts in developing areas of the world.

Basically, they saw some problems with international charities and wanted to offer a better option. They have put up all of the money needed to start the organization, launch the website, etc. They also do not pay themselves any salary for running the non-profit organization...they donate their time, talent and treasure. What this means is that any money you give through their organizations goes directly to helping the specific group selected...none to corrupt foreign governments, none to high-paid executives, etc.

I don't plan on "plugging" things on the blog in the future, but I am so excited for Frank and he has worked so hard for this very worthy cause that I wanted to help spread the word. If you're interested at all, please check out the website to get more information. God bless!
