San Diego

Last weekend Billy and I took a few days and headed out to San Diego since we had a couple free flights on Southwest. Billy's parents came to Dallas and stayed with Will--we are so grateful to have two sets of parents ready and willing to watch Will. Thank you again Mark and Linda--we really appreciate it!

While we were gone, Will grew by leaps and bounds. When we left, he was walking fairly well (sometimes 6-8 steps at a time), but still doing a lot of crawling because it was definitely the more efficient way to move. Now, he is walking about 90% of the time and can walk all around the house without falling. Crazy! Before we left he would occasionally stand up in the middle of the room without holding onto anything or putting his hands on the ground. Now, he is doing that like he's been doing it for years. Billy commented that he isn't sure if he can do that himself (Billy doesn't have the best balance in the world). Will also learned how to play peek-a-boo. He kind of did it before, but not really. Now, he's a pro. Amongst Will's grandparents and his Uncle Ben, there must be a baby whisperer!

DAY 1

When we got to San Diego, we had lunch at Seaport Village (cool little area on the bay), toured the U.S.S. Midway, and went out to La Jolla to have dinner at The Marine Room, a neat restaurant where the waves crash into the windows of the restaurant at high tide.

Billy had to bend over to walk through most of the ship, and there's no way he would have fit on one of these beds!







I always thought fighter jets landed on the aircraft carriers, but instead, they have a hook that catches a cable that is strung across the runway that stops the jets.

DAY 2

On Saturday, we spent the entire day at the San Diego Zoo. This might sound crazy if you've never been to the San Diego Zoo, but it's easy to do so. The zoo was amazing! The koalas cracked us up because they look like little old sleeping men when they snooze.

Okay, so, here is typically what Galapagos turtles are doing...



nothing. Most of the time you wonder if they are alive or not, so I just couldn't resist posting my crude picture. Apologies in advance, but I figured it would get a laugh out of some... And, yes, they are doing what you think they are doing.













DAY 3

On Sunday, we took a brunch cruise around the bay area and then headed over to Coronado Island. That night we went down to the Gaslamp District (a bar and restaurant district) and had awesome CaliMex. Don't get me wrong, I love my TexMex, but I wouldn't mind adding CaliMex to my rotation.















Overall, we had a fabulous time. Although we really missed Will while we were gone, it was a nice treat to not have diaper duty for a few days!
