Halfway to a Year
Over the weekend Lucy turned 6 months old. Today she weighed in at 18 pounds 6 ounces (90th percentile) and measured 27 1/2 inches long (97th percentile). Her height has always been in the 90s but only until this appointment did her weight find her there. Lucy does not have any teeth yet. Cate's first tooth popped up right after she turned 6 months and Will's didn't arrive until right at 9 months, so we'll have to wait and see. So far she has been introduced to rice cereal, carrots, peas, and green beans. She is also a fan of Baby Mum Mums and will get quite mad at you if you take one out of her hands to help her hold it. For the majority of the month she was nursed about half the time and bottle fed the other half. Over the last week or so though I have started to wean her as my supply has naturally started to decrease.
This kid is ready for the world! She reaches for EVERYTHING and will push off you and throw her body out if you are holding her and she wants something. She squirms, rolls, and inches her way to whatever she has her eyes set on. She is sitting pretty well and can bend forward, grab a toy, and sit back up. Occasionally she topples to the side or straight back. A few times she has managed to get up on her knees and throw her body forward. She has always been pretty indifferent about taking baths, but she recently discovered splashing and she really gets happy when her arms and legs get going. She has also turned into a little frog in her exersaucer and really can get that thing bouncing. Lucy has displayed a few signs of stranger anxiety that seemed to crop up overnight. Should prove interesting at Uncle Brian's wedding in two weeks...
Lucy is 100% a blankie kid and falls asleep with one almost all the time. She rubs it in her hands and cuddles it near her chin (I usually go in later and take it out since she's probably still a little young to be sleeping with a blanket). Though she will take a paci sometimes, she doesn't seem to love it as much as I remember the other two loving theirs by this age. Overall she is sleeping pretty good. Lately she has been really fighting her third nap, resulting in an overtired baby at bedtime, but all in all doing okay. She continues to be pretty easy going and the perfect addition to our family. As much as I love watching Lucy grow and change and experience the world, I'm also equally enjoying watching Will and Cate experience it as well.
I just love Lucy's belly laugh (Ed. note. Her laugh reminds me of Will's baby belly laugh).
